About BaECON

BaECON (Bicester against the Eco Con) was formed by Tony Walton at the start of 2012, following the high level of response from the public of  Bicester North Ward where he stood as an independent ‘Against ECO TOWN’ candidate in the Town Council by election in September 2011. In that election, from a very cold start, he came second, winning 20% of the vote. Now we are known of in the public domain, our support is growing.

Tony is a surveyor who has worked in property development for over 30 years, and has both a commercial and technical understanding of the development process. He has worked for both national and regional housing developers and has been Managing Director of a construction company in the county.

Within our group we also have members who also have extensive experience in Planning, Design, Architecture, and local government.

We consider that we do not categorise ourselves as a reactionary ‘Nimby’ group who object to Development purely on the basis of its location. Rather, we have very strong reservations about the planning process on this project, as well as its financial viability and the significant commercial risk being taken by Cherwell District Council.

The public of Cherwell District are now becoming increasingly wary of what is going on in NW Bicester and the way the Council has driven this project through various loopholes in the planning regulations, without substantial public involvement or enquiry as to what is going on.
